Homemade Microwave Popcorn

At my recent baby food classes for the St. John’s MOPS group, we talked about a super simple way to make healthier microwave popcorn. I promised the ladies I would post my recipe, which I love.

Homemade popcorn works great as a quick snack or add it to school lunches as a creative way to get your kiddos to eat whole grains. You can even let them create their own flavor! I’ve done cinnamon and sugar, parmesan cheese, garlic and basil, or there’s always the classic butter and salt combo.

Ingredients

……….
1/2 cup bulk organic popcorn
Brown paper lunch bag
Toppings of your choice
……….

Put popcorn in bag. Make sure all the kernels are at the bottom of the bag, then fold down the top twice so the bag is folded into thirds (like a microwave bag of popcorn looks before it is popped). Microwave for approximately 2-2/1/2 minutes.  Stop as soon as you can count to 2 between pops.

Put in large bowl and top with melted butter and salt, or any of your favorite toppings. I’ve tried parmesan cheese, cinnamon and sugar, garlic and basil, hot sauce with butter, cayenne pepper and garlic, just to name a few.
