Birthdays in the Park
This past weekend, we celebrated my daughters’ birthdays. For the past few years, we’ve been inviting our friends and family to our favorite park. It’s perfect for a kid party in the spring with its large playground, working animal farm, and plenty of wide-open greenspace to run around in! To make sure our guests didn’t go hungry, I pre-packed individual lunches in these adorable little wooden berry boxes. This made it simple to set up, simple to eat while standing, and a cinch to clean up!
For the kiddos’ lunch boxes, I made pb + banana sandwiches on whole wheat waffles. For the adult boxes, I made a spiced-rubbed, slow cooked pork sandwich with chipotle mustard, arugula, and grilled red onions. To go with the sandwiches, I filled each of the berry boxes with a handful of homemade cheddar crackers and some fresh grapes. The real hit of the party, though, was the strawberry lemonade! And what would a birthday party be without cupcakes? Each birthday girl got to pick her own, so our guests were forced to choose between strawberry buttercream or blueberry…unless, of course, they had two!
